Marriage License Legislature

There is some new legislature that has been introduced for this session. They are wanting to increase the amount for a Texas Marriage License to $60 from $30. However, if you can show you had premarital counseling, you only have to pay the $30 fee.

What? Is this supposed to deter people from getting married on a whim? It's only $60!!! If you want to prevent people from getting married so you can help alter the divorce rate, charge a couple hundred dollars or something that will actually put a dent in people's pockets and make them think about what they're doing.

Also, there are some religions that already require pre-marital counseling before marriage and that doesn't seem to help. How does the state of Texas think this is a good idea and that it will work. They must be really bored!!
